Sometimes we need remindersPosted January 17, 2017
Yesterday, I had the good fortune of hearing Liz Murray speak. For those of you who might not recognize the name, Liz is the woman who went from homeless to Harvard. By chance, last night, I happened to chat online with the daughter of an old friend. This friend has had a hard life and still struggles financially. I was shocked to find out that this girl, her daughter, had been homeless a couple of years ago. Yet, she managed to find herself a job and is putting herself through university without any financial help. I decided on the spot to do all I can to help her.
The reason I’m telling you this is because Liz Murray said something very important in her speech.
Everyone is able to help, even if it’s just by offering to do somebody’s laundry. When a person is broke, something as basic as the cost of laundry can be too much. Imagine being in that position and someone coming in and offering to take care of that small necessity for you.
Or a benefactor can drop off a homemade meal once a week. To someone who possibly dines on peanut butter sandwiches night after night, a homemade mean could be a wonderful gift.
The point is, we can all show we care. Think of something you can do that won’t be too onerous for you, yet be helpful to someone in need.
I dare you to do something. And when you do, post it on your Facebook page and dare your friends to do the same.
